Spacesaver teamed up with the architect of the Seattle Public Library to create this compacting kiosk for a retail shop located in the library’s atrium. Spacesaver provided the carriage-and-rail system that allows the shelving units to move, and the architect specified locally-sourced millwork for the shelving and cabinetry.
The shop’s operation is simple. The clerk opens the kiosk by sliding the shelving units along rails installed in the floor. After separating the units, the clerk powers up the lighting system by plugging electrical cords into recessed floor outlets. The carriages’ roller guidance provides smooth operation, allowing stock to remain on the display shelving during opening and closing, and extra stock is stored in cabinets located above and below the shelves.
At closing time, the clerk slides the shelving units back together to form a compact, self-contained unit. This ensures that stock is secure when the shop is unattended, and it also frees up space in the atrium area for after-hours receptions and other events.
As with all Spacesaver products, our rails and carriages are made with heavy-duty steel and are engineered and manufactured with pride in Wisconsin, USA.
