Organize Your Office for the New Year

Posted on: January 3, 2017

Your office is an important, critical part of your life. That might sound dramatic—but it’s true. When you settle in to work for the day, you want—need—a clean, organized environment. Your office shouldn’t quite be a home away from home, but it should be a comfortable and productive place to work. If you’re ready to start this year off on the right foot, Spacesaver Interiors has some ideas for you!

Ways to Organize Your Office for the New Year

The most vital part of setting yourself up for success in 2017 is going to be all about proper preparation. By taking these steps, you can make your office less cluttered, more productive, and overall much less stressful to work in!

Clean Out Your Work Space

That’s right—before you can really get started with proper office storage and organization, you need to get rid of anything and everything that isn’t essential. Do a thorough “spring cleaning” of your files, folders, documents, and work tools. If you don’t need it, toss it!

Arrange According to Necessity

How you arrange your office can make a large impact in how efficiently you are able to work. Is your desk in an awkward place? Is it easy to access all of your storage and get to what you need? Consider both comfort and productivity when you are arranging your office; something like a room divider or storage shelving can help break your office into sections or create a nice “work bubble” when you need to really buckle down.

Keep Your Desk Clear

If you’re the sort of person whose desk is overflowing with folders, papers, pens, pencils, your work computer, and a few other dozen things you need—it’s probably time for a change! A clean and clear workspace is a healthy workspace, and too much going on with your desk may make you feel more stressed and harried than you need to be! Clear off your desk, keeping only the absolute essentials for your work. If it’s not something you need now, find a drawer or cabinet for it!

More Storage, Less Space

Having trouble finding a place for everything? If your office isn’t all that big, it’s important to use every bit of space to your advantage. Tall bookshelves, wall-mounted shelving systems, filing cabinets, and other vertical drawers—if it’ll help save space, get to it! Consolidating your storage will give you more space to work with, and make your office feel less claustrophobic.

Box It Up, Pack It Away

Bins and boxes are a storage option many people overlook. They shouldn’t! Storage bins and modular cabinets are a great way to sort items of importance. Sort documents, files, and other office supplies into bins for safekeeping, and stack them on shelves. It’s easy to label bins for reference, so there’s no reason you should have to go rooting around in your storage to find what you want.

Invest In Proper Storage

Needless to say, the most important storage solution tip we can give is to invest in storage options. You might be able to make do with your desk drawers, but the more storage options you have, the more organized your office will be—and an organized office will translate into a happier, more productive you.
